Sanding The Laps

Sage Joske sanding fellow critical slider Brett Caller's new log. I hear it's already in Brett's hands & beneath his feet. Reckon he'd be a happy man. Had the opportunity to check out Sage's recent work; he is killing it.

It's a bit of an historic week at The Critical Slide Society... our team of dedicated agents have brought in final orders from across the country so that you can look forward to sliding in some fine trunks this Xmas (or next March for our Northern bros.) Plus our very first product has hit the shops... well shop actually.

Who is Kameron Brown?

Who is that guy anyways?.........Oh, that's me! Kameron Brown from Dana Point, California. I am the first CA rider for TCSS and very proud to be. This is my first blog entry and I wanted to say how freakin stoaked I am to be apart of this The Critical Slide Society. People love the brand already over here and I think it's going to become very popular. The clothing speaks for itself with the creative artists and rad designs TCSS has. I also ride for Icons of Surf where they sell the line.

Well, I recently had Tom Wegeners assitant, MATT WILLIAMS stay with me while he indoctrinated me into the LA LA Society. We spent some time up in LA with John Wegener shapin n scrapin wood until we came up with these little wooden planks that remind me of my old longboard skateboards. They told me you could actually surf these things and until I actually tried, I thought they were slightly crazy. Now, After my first ride..... I'm hooked!

It took us about 3 hours to shape and finish up the details. This one we shaped is a 6'2" "Peanut". Works really well for the waves we have out in SoCal. When I traveled to Australia in March, I went to Tom Wegeners abode and carved out my very first Alaia.... a 6'6" "Rasta Performer". That one seems to work well at the points in Noosa and works very well at Malibu and other points here in Cali. They may not be the best paddlers but once your up, your FLYIN! I hope everyone in the future gets a chance to have that feeling the Alaia gives you wether it be getting slotted or slipping down the wave with the controlled slide, The LA LA.

'Last Hope'

A series of sixteen original short surf/art films compiled by Andrew Kidman (Glass Love/ Litmus) and spunk records

Andrew Kidman chose six of his favourite surfing filmmakers to create short films that were inspired by the sea. The filmmakers include Albert Falzon (Morning Of The Earth), Jon Frank (Litmus), Monty Webber, Michelle Lockwood (Kids) and American underground surf filmmakers Patrick Trefz (Thread) and Richard Kenvin (Hydrodynamica). Kidman also provides four special cuts of his own.

The filmmakers created their short films to music selected by Aaron Curnow from some of the greatest independent contemporary artists; Smog, Sufjan Stevens, Mogwai, My Morning Jacket, Dirty Three, Holly Throsby, Vetiver, Bonnie Prince Billy , The Brown Birds From Windy Hill and Machine Translations.

Last Hope is a film for anyone with a love for the ocean. With the film's collage approach, mixed with the quiet musical stylings, it presents a side of the life that is often forgotten in these modern times.

Andrew Kidman is taking the film on the road this July and his band Brown Birds From Windy Hill will be providing a live score for the film at each show. Special guests (including Machine Translations) will also be appearing along the way.

cloudy at crescent

congratulations to TCSS rider Cloudy Rhodes for placing first in the finals at Crescent last month. it was a major effort just getting there this year with the floods.... a normal 8 hour trip became 2 days of slow driving. Clouds travelled there with Louis English to surf the comp, her words below:

"after numerous wrong turns, almost running out of petrol and being taken through what once was a road and now a lake, in a fire truck, Louis' trusty old volvo station wagon finally got us to crescent head. although the ocean was predominately made up of mud, the week consisted of loggin all time crescent and eating pies from the local bakery. amonst all this fun I somehow made it through my heats and ended up with a first, which made me one stoked logger"
